The Fugitive Slave War of 1850, the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, and Uncle Tom’s Cabin of 1852 occupied a significant position as the leading causes of the American Civil War. For instance, Erickson (2019) explains that Uncle Tom’s Cabin heightened the degrees of hostility depicted between the Northerners and the Southerners as it increased the levels of awareness of the Northerners on the unjust nature of slavery. The fact that the Southern slave owners were in deep support of the institution led to the emergence of wrangles and the Civil War. On the other hand, Tal (2017) attributes the nature of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 as a source of victory to the South and a loss to the North as a critical cause of the Civil War as it demeaned the Northerners of the opportunity to foresee the control of slaves. Lastly, Jaffa (2018) explain that the powers accorded to each territory to make decision on the aspect of slavery through popular sovereignty by the Kansas-Nebraska Act played
