President Franklin Delano Roosevelt announced that on December 7, 1941, the day that the Japanese attacked the Pearl Harbor was to live in infamy. This attack marked the beginning of the United States to fully engage in the two theaters of the world war. Before the attack, the United States had taken a passive role in the European War where it supplied England as well as other antifascist countries of Europe the munitions of war. This paper discusses the effects of World War II which include development of soldier’s experience, the transformation of the economy and women roles changed thus participating in the war.
World War II enhanced soldier’s experience. The war involved more than eighteen million men and more volunteers also moved to join the military after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. It is also important to note that most of the volunteers were also recruited and then they were developed physically and provided with training regarding the use of weapons and military equipment. Once on the ground, the soldiers spent months operating their assigned vessels and this provided the military personnel with real-life exposure to war.
