World War I is also known as the Great War and it started in 1914 and lasted until 1918. The conflict was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife on June 1914 by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian revolutionary. Additionally, the existence of alliances between different nations may have also contributed to the eruption of the war. World War I involved Central powers which included Germany, Bulgaria, and Austria-Hungary who fought against France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and the United States which from 1917. This paper examines the wish of the United States to remain neural and why it was opposed to the war.
World War I was one of the greatest wars ever witnessed. The conflict involved many countries from different continents and over sixty-five million men were involved. Additionally, the war involved heavy machinery which included machine guns, poisonous gasses and the use of tanks. However, at the start of World War I, the United States was not involved but instead, the country had chosen to remain neutral. This was mainly because the United States was not part of any of the alliances that existed in Europe.
