After the end of the Civil War, the United States contained two different economies. Majority of the people in different parts of the country during this period depended on farming. It is keynoting that people from the North had a diversified economy and their economic activities depended on free labor. On the other side, people from the Southern economy was in shambles and the farms were usually operated by the slaves. After the end of the southerners envisioned an economy which was enriched with expanded manufacturing facilities and commerce, they referred this regional economic as the New South. This paper addresses some of the issues which hindered economic and political changes in the South.
First, the region experienced poor transport networks. In the mid-nineteenth century, the region was reluctant in railroad building and this made it lag behind the North region.
