The popular image of the 1920s is that of a decade of prosperity and ungovernable and uncontrollable living. However, this image may be seen as misleading because this was a decade of deep cultural conflict. The pre-Civil War decades had fundamental conflicts in the American society which involved geographic regions. It is important to note that during the gilded age, conflicts centered on ethnicity and social class. This paper examines and explains the different occurrences and the happenings of the 1920s which comprised of the Cultural Wars.
The 1920s were expected to be anything but normal. This decade significantly reshaped the American life that it was given names such as the Prosperity Decade, the New Era and the Age of the Flapper among other. It was during this time that a new economy and new standards of living emerged from the mass production and consumption of products such as film, household appliances, and automobiles. However, during the same time many other American shifted their attention from political and economic reforms, they also criticized and condemned America’s shifting demographics and the suppressed immigration.
