Myron’s Discobolus is undoubtedly a famous and easily recognizable artworks linked to the Olympic Games. Although the piece of art was produced in the 5th Century BC in a bronze material, it is has been evident in recent times through copies of marble discovered in Italy around the 18th Century. Many scholars have analyzed the Discobolus, albeit as a typical example of antique art rather than its reception in the modern era. It follows that the piece of art has continued to be influential in contemporary art, including films and posters associated with the Olympics, and often with new and diverse meanings. Accordingly, this paper aims at analyzing the recreation of Myron’s Discobolus, as shown in a poster for the 1948 Olympic Games in London, UK.[O'Mahony, Mike. The formal elements of the Discobolus feature a naked and muscular man with great focus. Moreover, the man shows athletic action of a mid-swing, as he prepares to throw a discus. His head is turned backward while his right arm is lifted with a tight grip on the discus. Further, his right foot is bent down a bit, with the left arm stretched onto it while the left foot is curved. Despite assuming such a demanding posture, the discus thrower appears to be relaxed and composed. Additionally, the sculpture features smooth and rough textures of the skin and hair, respectively, while the muscles bulge out.
