History is a significant part of humanity. We all have personal stories from our past that excite our children, relatives, and coming generations. Similarly, a community has an exciting account that has been preserved in different ways and appeals to current and future generations. The Pharaoh Akhenaten art, the city of Nimrud, and the Ishtar Gate are some of them.
The City of Nimrud was situated in the current Iraq territory, but the Islamic group ISIS destroyed it in 2015. ISIS used bulldozers and explosives to destroy the ancient city that hosted rich history about the Assyrian King Shalmaneser I who built it ("Nimrud: Photos Show IS Destruction Of Ancient Iraqi City" 2016). It also hosted several people. That was a very significant historical site that our children will only read it in the books if an effort is not invested in rebuilding it.
The Ishtar Gate was similarly destroyed in April 2003. The constant war between the US troops and terrorist groups from Iraq led to the destruction of the iconic gate in Babylon (Knight 2015). The continuous fights have raged havoc in the world's important architecture that preserved ancient history. It is however, good that the gate is already reconstructed in the museum.
Pharaoh Akhenaten's art was Egyptians' historical pride. The art told stories of generations during the leadership of the royal Pharaohs. It was smashed by King Akhenaten's successor in the 14th century and further damaged during the Second World War while it was being moved (Hesler 2017). It is an essential form of historic preservation not only for the Egyptians but globally.
