Today’s technology has eased access to information about the United States government, public policy, and politics significantly. For example, the emergence and adoption of social media by a wide audience means that one can easily access first-hand government information from government officials and government organizations. For example, you can follow the White House on Twitter to get updates on the President's activities and policy initiatives. You can also follow journalists, news organizations, and think tanks to get a variety of perspectives on political issues. In addition to social media, technological advancement has facilitated the establishment of online news outlets where one can keep track of political and government events. For example, outlets such as Politico and Hill operate digital outlets only and play a major role in information dissemination (Moeller, Kuhne, & De Vreese, 2018).
How can citizens use technology to positively affect public policy with two specific examples?
Modern technology provides a platform for citizens to influence public policy. To this end, various technology platforms such as Twitter and Facebook provide a powerful tool for creating and raising awareness about policy issues of concern.
