Fact Summary
A man by the name of Brian Petty held two positions; that of a police officer in Nashville and an officer in the army reserve. The army decided to deploy him to Iraq, and he subsequently informed the police department of the new development. While in Iraq, Petty was charged with violating the Military Code of Justice. Instead of facing a court-martial, he opted to resign and get an honorable discharge. Slightly over a year after returning to the U.S., Petty sought to be reinstated to the police service as a patrol sergeant. The police department embarked on the return-to-work process usually undertaken for officers who have been away for a considerable period.
