           Social Movements (SMs) have been crucial to the realization of changes and reforms in the society. It balances the injustices and other forms of discrimination that might be overlooked by the State while trying to perform its sovereign function. Nevertheless, as times have changed so do social movements. From its earliest forms (i.e., Abolitionism, Church Planting Movement) to its contemporary actions (i.e., #StopFundingHate, #BlackLivesMatter), it is apparent that despite the changes in means and methods of pursuing their goals, SMs have stayed true to its functions of protecting lives and liberty of the people. 
 
Inspiring Social Movements
Accordingly, some of the SMs that really inspired me are those who were able to bring about change using technology. Some examples of these are (1) #BringBackOurGirls, (2) #ASLIceBucketChallenge, (3) The Perfect Body Movement and (4) Black Lives Matter Movement. These four have shown how social media could pave the way for people around the world, not only to contribute towards the creation of an international movement, but also to unite together towards change, progress, equality, and liberty.

           Nellie Wong’s poem entitled When I was growing up incites a feeling of enlightenment among its readers. Ever since the world was colonized by the Whites, different societies, cultures, and people have always retained a sense of ‘admiration’ towards Western culture. Most of the world has always believed that their culture, looks, and actions are always right and should be imitated.
