This week, you are reading a variety of work by women writers, many of whom are known as regional authors. The women’s movement gained considerable momentum during this period, but there was no cohesion among the women. Women authors were from different regions and different socio-economic groups. Social class differences among women caused strife among the poor, middle class, and rich because they were not equals in American society. Efforts to achieve the right to vote saturate women’s writing on many levels.
How do classic American themes, like equality, change in women’s literature? Why do you think class differences played such an important role for women when they were all supposedly fighting for a common cause? How did the publication of women’s writing change or reinforce women’s roles in society at the time?

Women writers advocated for racial and gender equality through their works of literature. Besides, they identified the role of women as equal to that of men regarding privilege, power, and status. One of the ultimate objectives of women’s literature was to defend equal economic, political, and social rights for men and women (Tobias 43). The research on women’s writing and rise of feminism revealed the theme of equality in every genre. Since the beginning of the women’s movement, literature with a feminist tone continues to rise, thus facilitating the fight for equality and recognition of men and women’s rights in the society.
