Different states receive grants which they plan, design and operate agendas in order to realize TANF programs. Through the assistance, needy children can be cared for in their own homes. It also reduce dependency rate of needy families by encouraging work, marriage and job preparation. The program likewise encourages the formation of two parent family while at the same time reducing the number of incidences of pregnancy outside wedlock. The aim of this paper is to examine the eligibility requirement specific to New York City. The paper will examine the relevance of the information in application of financial assistance and also factors to change in order to demonstrate advocacy. The process of application for welfare packages through TANF varies in rigidity from one state to another. To be eligible in New York City, one must be a resident and have low or no income. The beneficiary must be pregnant or responsible of individual under eighteen years of age. The child must be a United States national, citizen, and legal alien or permanent resident. Applicants attend two eligibility interviews in two different locations (Holcomb et al., 2003). The beneficiaries also go through fingerprinting and photography in order to prevent fraud. An eligibility verification investigator would then visit a home of the potential beneficiary in order to determine the truth. One would then be subjected to mandatory workforce orientation and daily job search classes which takes five days per week.
