The advent of globalization has been associated with increased use of new technology, leading to a global culture especially for those connected with the new media. The global economy has also led to a widening gap between the rich and the poor, and the homogenizing aspects of the economy and society that characterizing the more affluent people in diverse countries. Nonetheless, people are still more likely to maintain their distinct identities, while different countries participate in the economic, cultural and economic life of other nations. This essay highlights on the growth of urban cities as melting points of culture in a globalized word, it will also focus on growth in cosmetic surgery as a consequence of globalization as well as the benefits of information technology in enhancing mobilization for women movement group
Globalization has mostly been associated by migration into cities, given the role of labor mobility as one of the elements facilitating people’s movement in a more globalized world (Viswanathan). It is noteworthy that the under employed in cites tend to have a more diversified stock compared to rural areas in most countries, and this informs policy makers on multiculturalism. On one hand, the governments may focus on multiculturalism to promote harmony in the diversified cities, and this is also used as a marketing tool to attract more investments (Viswanathan, 2005).
Nonetheless, the working class poor from racial minorities may form their own groups, and this may create tension as the communities try to outdo each other for access to capital and resources. The case for integrating various cultures in countries is that with increased diversity, there is likely to community tensions. The cities hybridities as well as experiences all influence how different people perceive their cultures in their adopted countries, given that the immigrant communities who feel aggrieved may not fee fully integrated, highlighting the case for hybridity rather than multiculturalism to understand globalization (Viswanathan, 2005).
