Latin Americans overly embrace democracy as their most favored form of governance. Most citizens say they prefer governance that refrains from religion-related beliefs and values in most countries. But the Latin Americans are too divided to an extent whereby their religious leaders also influence politics in these countries. Some signs suggest that the public is moving away from the democratic adaptation in most countries, especially in countries that have experienced political instability and bad governance.
Various reasons cause unevenness in the quality of an institution. Firstly is the level and quality of education. Most individuals prefer a democratic system, especially those that have at least cleared secondary education. Despite this fact, democracy is not even across the Latin American community. However, generally, both the educated and the uneducated are still favoring democracy rather than the strong leaders. The latter are most likely to be dictators and do everything as they please and not for the good of citizens (Schamis, 2006).
