Part I – Ethical Foundation: Describe your ethical foundation and discuss what motivates you to behave ethically. You have been instructed at several points throughout the semester to consider what impacts your ethical decision making and I would like you to clearly identify it here (in great detail). You may draw off of personal experiences, professional experiences, role models, family members, religion, etc. to describe your foundation.
Part II – Ethical Theory: Based on the ethical foundation described above, what ethical theory or theories (if you align with more than one) For this section, you are expected to not only portray your understanding of at least one ethical theory but to also apply it to your personal life.
Part III – Course Material Reflection: What topic(s)/discussion(s) impacted you the most? Why? for the class discussion talk about a case called "whistiling while you work", it's a story about Jackie Mclaughin whistleblowing. Describe in detail and how it will impact your future when making ethical decisions (personally/professionally).
Part IV – Influential Representations: For this section, think about societal influences that best describe/impact your ethical foundation (i.e. objects). You need to identify TWO representations and describe why you relate to them. These can be things like relevant videos (YouTube or vimeo), research or news articles, music, movies, symbols etc. You must include links to any videos or articles and pictures or images are encouraged. Part V – Unethical Behavior: Describe your opinion as to the main reasons why people behave unethically. You should expand on topics discussed in class and include personal/professional experience and thoughts as well. If you were to get into trouble for behaving unethically, who would be the person(s) you would not want to tell? Discuss.
Part VI – Future Career: Consider your future career and describe why it is critical for accountants to behave ethically. How will you ensure that you make ethical decisions when faced with ethical dilemmas at work? Describe your decision-making process (i.e. a decision-making roadmap) that you will use for making ethical decisions.
Part VII: – The COVID Pandemic and Ethical Behavior

My ethics foundation has often been grounded on the reals of religion. Since childhood, I have constantly tailed on scriptures to guide my moral and ethical conduct. Moreover, the idea of God was instilled in me by the community that I grew in. Therefore, some of the ethical standards drawn from religion over time are honesty, respect, integrity, selflessness, responsibility, and empathy. All of these standards are somehow interconnected with biblical scriptures that I have read in my lifetime. Therefore, religion is what most of the time motivates me towards behaving ethically. This is from my personal experience where I have been so active in matters concerning the church. Thus the aspect has contributed to my ethical behaviour.
On ethical theories, the deontological theory of ethics matches my behaviour where through religious aspects, I have understood how to treat other people in the community. Also, in my religious activities, this theory is applicable where I can identify other people's duties and therefore act towards them accordingly. However, in understanding this theory, Ethics in deontology, philosophy, ethical philosophies focus on the connection between obligation and human morality. Deontological ethics interpret an action as morally positive because of the features of the action itself rather than because the result of the action is good (McNaughton & Rawling, 2006). Deontological ethics states that irrespective of the impacts on human well-being, some acts are morally obligatory.
Ethics in research is one of the topics which have been so interesting to me. This is because the topic entails different aspects to reflect on my personal life and thus evaluate myself. Also, this topic has helped me to understand different aspects concerning ethical theories and have been able to understand them fully and differentiate all of them. Additionally, ethics are so applicable in every field and more so in every individual's life, where each person has to be guided by some ethical principles.
On societal influences, religious leaders have been so helpful towards impacting my ethical behavior. This is where they have been able to guide me using the scripture. Their teachings have been able to know the importance of respecting one another and taking different responsibilities. Additionally, my family has also influenced my ethical behavior. My parents have been able to guide me to frame my behavior.
