Here is the contention to which you are to respond.
Contention:
The idea of a 'glass ceiling' simply has no practical meaning in the American society of 2016. After all, a woman has secured the Democratic Party's nomination for President of The United States and there have already been several female Secretaries of State in the administrations of Presidents from each of the two major political parties. There are also numerous women in high-prestige occupations such as law, medicine and the professorate. Indeed, more women than men are completing higher educations with the intent of entering fields traditionally associated with males. Females have entered the top ranks of management as well, even in some of the Fortune 'Top 500' corporations. General Motors, for example, is headed by a woman. Likewise, many universities and colleges are being led by a female President. Clearly, the argument that women are somehow discriminated against in our society is without merit and, for this reason, no 'special provisions' of a programmatic or legislative nature should be considered for them. In fact, any such legislation now in place should be reversed in such a way that no reference to one's sex is made at all.

I disagree with the contention that the glass ceiling on women issues should be overlooked and swept under. The miniature changes and achievements of some women who have shattered the glass ceiling is a concerted effort by many women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the past and refused to play by the rules for future generations to achieve gender equity. Statistics and facts portrayed by the contention are some of the extra ordinary cases of women who have shattered the glass ceiling and became notable figures. The truth is the figures are construed to portray a gender balanced society which hasn’t been attained yet. However, the situation is changing compared to the situation few decades ago during the wake of feminism which gave forth the benefits enjoyed by women today in the US.
The idea of generalizing gender equity by selectively quoting figures and statistics that favor gender biasness undermines the real issues underlying the gender issues in this country. There might be some exceptional women like Hillary Clinton who is a presidential nominee of a major party and could likely be the next president and forget about the majority of women who have been exploited, sidelined and overlooked in their families, workplaces, schools, etc. Such figures deter the public from focusing on the inherited malady of male chauvinism.
Calling for the abolition of legislations protecting the interest of women is despicable and a sign of retrogressing society. The efforts of past feminists who fought to abolish biased gender regulations and sought recognition of women as equal to men would be watered down. Most parts of the countr...
