Open Space Technology and Future Search
Future Search is an approach for resolving complicated issues in an organization. It is a good option when a small group or individual cannot solve the problem facing the organization. In the current context, the issue entails a significant merger between the company and another established firm. The new developments meant that the company has to consider how it relates to current employees and what would happen to them due to the new changes. A Future Search Conference is the best approach to solve the issue since it relies on individuals who are from different backgrounds and are competent in various aspects. Future Search also applies when there is a need to have a solution that would apply to a large group of people (Nixon, 1998). Since the leaders of the organization were keen to solve the issue with other stakeholders, Future Research Conference is the best approach since all stakeholders with interest in the outcome are involved. The individuals who will be invited to the conference includes everyone who was represented by the initial ten people in the steering committee. This will comprise of 64 participants who will be spending 16 hours in a room that will be spread for their days. From the participants, eight sets of participants will be selected to represent various shareholder groups. The eight groups will sit at round tables, and their role is to work through the future search process stages. This involves reviewing historical data to determine future trends, map the present, establish the ideal future scenario, identify a common goal, and then come up with a plan of action (Leith, 1996). All these steps are crucial to guarantee the success of the conference. The success of the conference will also be achieved by ensuring that stakeholder involvement is high. This means that it will include a majority of the internal and external stakeholders like the local community, customers, and suppliers (Leith, 1996). This will ensure that the final decisions will be a widely-shared v...
