The personal statement is highly-weighted in the evaluation process. The Admissions Committee uses it to ascertain the potential of the applicant to write at the graduate level and the reasons for pursuing master-level education in social work.
Applicants must submit a statement that uses Times New Roman font size twelve (12) and is double-spaced. In social work education, the American Psychological Association’s Publication Manual (APA Style) is used for formatting and style. Applicants are required to use this guide for all formatting and style, such as in-text citations and reference lists. The personal statement must be a minimum of three (3) pages but not exceed five (5). Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend to composition, including spelling, punctuation and the use of thesis statements and introductory and concluding sentences and paragraphs.

There is no doubt that changes are inevitable in our society. Today, because of major factors such as globalization, religion, and advancement in technology many aspects of our lives have changed, some for the better, and some for the worst. How we deal with these changes depends on an individual and the society that surrounds them. Globalization and the increased technology have made the world a global village where cultures and other aspects of life are being shared more than ever before. There is also increased knowledge and different methods of handling issues affecting the society that can easily be shared now. The increased knowledge has revealed that so many people do suffer in silence and some are not in a position to help themselves. Help ought to come from elected an official who in turn needs to develop an institution to cope with different issues in our society. However, what happens when the elected officials are too greedy and selfish and all they think of is themselves, or those who hold these offices are incompetent, or they become tired by bad politics and hence end up not helping where they are needed. That is where several special individuals in our society rise and decide enough is enough and act according to their passion for helping others. I consider this act self-fulfilling and hence my main reasons for perusing social work practice study.
Most recently, there has been a trending topic of the American pop star Robert Kelly popularly known as R.Kelly. The six-part series dubbed "surviving R.Kelly" narrates of how R. Kelly uses his influences, money, and fame to molest and use females some who are underage at his houses and studio. All this happens in the eyes of the other consent adults who have families. Watching the series one realizes that the society needs more of social workers who are not only endowed with school knowledge and certificates but who are willing to go beyond and act on facts for the sake of those suffering in silence.
