Evolution of Policing in Canada
The policing environment has shifted radically over the past decade. It is no longer sufficient to arrest and punish criminals; modern-day law enforcement must also prevent crime and play a significant role in community engagement and education. The evolution of policing in Canada can be traced to the early 1800s when the Northwest Mounted Police was established to deal with illegal trade and the influx of American whiskey traders into western Canada. The essay discusses the evolution of policing in Canada and how it has informed and shaped the system of policing in the country. Moreover, the paper also discusses intelligence-led policing and issues and concerns of using technology in policing.

For example, the RCMP is responsible for all police services in rural areas but not significant cities like Toronto or Vancouver. This means that there are 18 different police forces across the country instead of one national force. Each province also has its local police force.
