Behavioral contracting can be used with a token economy program in a situation involving the arithmetic performance of adolescents. The teacher and the student could set the goal for the student and the consequences if the goal is not achieved. The goal would be to solve five arithmetic problems every day, and the consequence for not meeting the goal would be to stay after school to meet the goal. This presents behavioral contracting because both the student and the teacher are in agreement, and the student agrees to engage in the specified behavior (complete five arithmetic problems per day), failure to which she will stay after school to complete the task (Miltenberger, 2016).
