M4D1 Paradigm Writing Assistant: Anticipating Opposition

Essay Instructions:

It also allows you to critically examine and revise your thesis statement as you analyze arguments both that support and contrast your original thesis.

Paradigm Online Writing Assistant. Read the section on “Anticipating Opposition.” Create a Pro/Con Chart about your primary argument and try to list at least four positive and four potentially negative aspects of your argument. “Negative” simply means that your argument is likely to be challenged or has already been challenged by other people in your major field of study. Use Microsoft Word’s Table menu to create your chart. You simply click Table > Insert Table and then choose the number or rows (number of items under whichever side has the most items, Pro/Con) and columns (2).

To make a good argument, the proposer must have a proposition which the adversary have a conflicting view on; the opposing side should, therefore, not accept your argument rather he or she should advance their take in the issue. Predicting the objection of the adversary is also necessary as this helps one to overcome them.
In the chart below, I will make a proposition organized in two sides, the "for" side will represent my argument and the "against" side will outline the anticipated contention from the adversary.
PRO AND CON CHART
Proposition: Poor hygiene is the cause of diseases.
For (PRO) Against (CON)
1 The most common-disease causing organisms are germs. 1. Some diseases are caused by virus.
2 Proper hygiene reduces the chances of getting ill. 2. Good hygiene is not a cure rathera preventive measure.
3 Doctors insist on proper hygiene to prevent diseases. 3. Proper hygiene is a preventive cure to any disease.
4 Proper hygiene is important. 4.Why do we need doctors and hospitals?

The foregoing highlights the relationships between disease and proper hygiene; my proposition proposes that proper hygiene can prevent diseases. The adversary would counter my argument by bringing to my attention among other things, that diseases are not only caused by germs which can be prevented by proper hygiene.
