Buddhism is one of the religions that belong to the indigenous Indian. It comprises of varied beliefs, traditions, practices, and traditions based on teachings of Siddhartha Gautama/Buddha. Ideally, the Buddha means the awaken one in the Indigenous Indian subcontinent. Buddhism has two main branches, which include the Theravada and the Mahayana. These branches are widely spread to various regions of the world. Buddhism is found majorly in the Asian and the Indian regions. Buddhist population is estimated to be 360 million to 1.6 billion making it become one of the fastest growing religions globally. Teaching of the Buddhist religion is achievable using the Buddhist schools where learners receive teachings on liberation, moral behavior, and canonicity from the various teachings and Buddhist scriptures.
Historical Perspective of the Buddhism Religion
Historically, Buddhism roots arise from the Indigenous Indian subcontinent during the second millennium BCE. Series of religious turmoil characterized this period leading to the need of the development of a new religion that could free the people from suffering brought by the Vedic Brahmanism. Buddhism uprising began in the Greater Magadha stretching to the Sravasti, Rajagrha, and to the Aryavarta, the eastern part of the indigenous Indian subcontinent. The Indian Buddhism is classifiable into five periods of uprising. The periods include the Pre-sectarian Buddhism, Sectarian Buddhism, Early Buddhist schools period, Early Mahayana Buddhism period, Late Mahayana Buddhism period, and the Esoteric Buddhism period.
