Visual systems play different roles in attention and are linked to different theories. As a psychologist, it is necessary to understand the visual system and adequately link it to attention. The visual system is a composition of sensory organs relating to the central nervous system responsible for image formation and creating attention. Attention is one's ability to process environmental information actively by tuning it out to specific details (Cantoni et al., 2012). It is limited to duration and capacity, thus adequately depending on the visual system. The paper addresses the visual system's role in attention and focuses on the parietal lobes.
Parietal Lobe Attention Processing and Visual Remapping
The parietal lobe is part of the visual system that determines attention processing and visual remapping. It is located in the skull's back area, identified as one of the major lobes in the brain. The parietal lobe significantly shapes visual remapping, a mechanism of neuron update depending on eye motion (Wickens & McCarley, 2019). Visual remapping occurs due to coordinated visual circuits at the parietal cortex making the parietal lobe critical. For every eye movement (attention processing), there is a location change at the retina, thus must be compensated through remapping.
Additionally, to understand the role of the parietal lobe in attention processing, it is significant to understand the lateral intraparietal, which identifies the relevant data in neural bearing and visual space.
