Adolescents experience heightened levels of self-conscientiousness.
Imagine that there is a multidisciplinary team of researchers who are interested in gaining a better understanding of why adolescents experience
heightened levels of self-conscientiousness. Select TWO of the following perspectives and describe what a researcher who works from such a
perspective would want the research project to focus on: biological, cognitive, cultural, gender, identity. In your response, be sure to describe/define:
which theory/theories each of the two team members would draw upon (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points). The theories can be specific ones (e.g., Kohlberg’s theory of moral development; gender intensification hypothesis) or more general ones (evolutionary theory, behaviourism,
information processing theory);
a hypothesis each of the two team members might have (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points);
what type of samples each of the two team members would recruit (e.g., adolescents, emerging adults, university students, parents, teachers,
romantic partners) and why these types of samples are the most appropriate (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points);
what type of research design (e.g., cross-sectional, longitudinal, sequential, experimental, qualitative) each of the two team members would use to
assess their hypotheses (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points) and why these methods are the most ideal for the specific studies (worth 1 point
each for a total of 2 points);
what types of assessments (e.g., self-report questionnaires, observation, interviews, specific psychophysiological measures) each of the two team
members would propose using to help evaluate their hypotheses (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points) and why these measures are the most
optimal type of measurement for the specific studies (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points);
potential results that each of the two team members might find in each of their studies (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points);
describe a strength or a contribution of each of the two studies (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points);
describe a limitation of each of the two studies (worth 1 point each for a total of 2 points)

A. The perspectives would be cognitive and gender and the theories that the two members would rely on are Kohlberg’s theory of moral development and the gender intensification hypothesis. Kohlberg’s theory focuses on the level of moral development as a way of expressing the substantial differences that occur in someone considering the development of morality and processes in different phases of development.
B. a hypothesis in each of the two members would include
* Cognitive variables influence the levels of self-conscientiousness
* Gender influences the development and maintenance of levels of self-conscientiousness
This is based on the perception that cognitive variables and gender influence the self identity and the levels of self-conscientiousness. However, there may be other factors that interact with the cognitive variables and gender such as the environment.
C. The type of samples each of the two team members would recruit is adolescents and university students, respectively, but the parents of the adolescents would need to be contacted to inform them about the study. Adolescents are contacted as there are cognitive factors that modulate their behaviours and influence their perceptions of themselves more so than adults. University students are young adults who already identity with a specific gende...
