Professional Reflection & Literature Review on LGBTQA+ sexual behavior: 20% of your grade.
This assignment is focused on “Am I Blue? Coming Out from the Silence" by Marion Dane Bauer. Throughout this course you are learning and unlearning information relative to the field of Human Sexual Behavior. Most of the informaton that exisits prior to the last few years is heteronormative, cisnormative and biased with regards to members of the LGBTQA+ community. You will explore both the stories in the book, how they relate to the two other class text books and to research as well as modern day applications.
This assignment has 3 parts:
Part 1: A reflection of the book "Am I Blue" that addresses your thoughts, feelings, related bias and addresses at least 4 specific vignettes from the book. You are expected to explore your early learnings or opinions on the topic and how that has adapted and changed (either because of your own lived experience or due to this course). You must also use the course textbooks to connect course content to the vignettes you choose. This section should reference the Caroll and Stombler text at least twice. This section should 4 -6 pages (min/max).

Part 2: For one of those vignettes, find 3 scholarly articles related to LGBTQA+ identities and the vignette's topic (for example, you may choose to look at coming out as it pertains to LGBTQA+ student athletes; you may choose to look at research on an aspect of LGBTQA+ parenting; LGBTQA+ specific bullying, etc.) Complete a literature review of the 3 articles. Your first paragraph should be a standard literature review. Your second paragraph should link the article to the vignette and class content. This section should be 2-4 pages (min/max).
Part 3: Find 3 relevant (within the past 3 years) news articles, blogs, media or stories that relate to the vignette you chose. For example, if you chose the story about the runner, you should be looking for 3 relevant resources related to LGBTQA+ athletes today. Synthesize the resources you chose and connect them to the person in the story. For example: How might the person in the story be affected by today's policies, media, reporting, recent research, etc. This section should be 2-4 pages (min/max).
Total (8 pages minimum, 14 pages maximum.)
Important: Each paper must be typewritten and follow APA formatting including a title page, running head, abstract and citations listed correctly. Additionally, copy the abstract (summary paragraph at the beginning of each journal article) for each of the three (3) articles you chose for Part 1 and attach these copies with your paper—you can cut and-paste the abstracts on pages after the Reference page. Please do not forget to include Part 3 resources in your list of citations.

Abstract
Human sexuality is such a broad spectrum and trying to identify a singular reason for an individual’s sexual orientation is impossible. There has been researching that has tried to connect sexual orientation to biological factors but the findings are not concrete. Also, the majority of society is of the belief that being gay is a choice that creates further division in the discussion about homosexuality. The difference occurs in that biological research tries to generalize human characteristics and find a connection to homosexual behavior which is not accurate. The genetic makeup of each individual is different and their sexual preferences are somehow influenced by the genes. However, having a certain type of gene does not make you gay if you don’t act on it. The confusion between these two factors does not look close to being solved but with all that, individuals have embraced their true selves. Sexuality is a big part of our lives and with that in mind, we need to realize that we are created differently and another person’s sexual orientation is not wrong just because it does not align with our sexual preferences.

When Melvin told a story and referred to himself as a faggot, the narrator was dumbstruck. The story itself was heartbreaking as Melvin explained the way he was dragged into an alley by well-built men who had the sole intention of beating him and calling him all sorts of names such as Faggot. This name is a degrading term that was for years used to put down individuals with non-normative sexual orientations. Melvin, however, explained that they call their mates the name as a way of taking the power out of the name and owning it. By calling each other queer and faggot, it is compared to the blacks where they embrace the word nigger, as a way of preventing people from intending to use the words to hurt individuals. In today’s societies, the words queer and Faggot have been embraced with queer being used to describing brevity among the LGBTQ community. Being queer has been associated with leading a different type of life and although some LGBTQ people are offended by the term, its perception is changing. The movement is massive and according to Berlant and Freeman (1993), individuals are sick of being put in a closet and it has given birth to chants like, “We’re here! We’re Queer! Get used to it!” This is a move to create equality and eliminate homophobia because the gay ion society deserves an opportunity as heterosexuals in society.
In the story of Parents night, Roxy and the narrator and Roxy who clicked after one date. They had instant chemistry and sure to be gay however, its only their inner circle which included Ab who knew. Their best friends, teachers and certainly not parents had any idea. The narrator, however, was feeling guilty around the parents, therefore, presented Ab as her boyfriend. The mother believes that Roxy is her daughter's best friend and even encourages her daughter to set her up so that they can go for double dates. If the parents knew their daughter’s sex...
