Steve is an avid runner and has been quite slim his whole life. He runs moderate- to long-distanccs three or four days per week. Running is his only physical activity. Steve has never been interested in resistance training because it is no: his strong suit. Steve recently decided that he is tired of being skinny. He would like to put on some size and muscle before he travels back to his hometown for a good friend’s wedding in 12 weeks.
INSTRUCTIONS
Design a 12-week pcriodized training program for the dient described in the Client Profile. Be very specific as you design the training programs as this is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your full comprehension of the information and concepts discussed throughout the course. List the types of exercise, duration, sets, reps, rest intervals, and so on.
CLIENT CALCULATIONS
Calculate the client's target heart rate using the Karvonen formula (you will determine the appropriate target heart rate for this client given the information gathered in the initial assessment and evaluation).
INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN YOUR CASE STUDY SUBMISSION:
A description of your professional responsibilities as discussed in the stages of the drawing-in process (Unit 12)
Discussion of any fitness tests, methods of evaluation, and data collection used to assess and evaluate the client's needs
Explanation for your recommendations and any specific conditions presented by your client that are found in the evaluation (Be sure to reference course concepts when discussing rationale for your recommendations.)
A detailed 12-week comprehensive and periodized training program including specific exercises, sets, repetitions, suggested rest times, etc. Use an integrated approach in your program recommendations. USE CHARTS TO ILLUSTRATE THE TRAINING PROGRAMS.
Specific and detailed nutritional strategies with an explanation as to how they will assist the client in meeting energy needs throughout the training program and achieving intended goal(s)
Keep in mind that a client should be able to take your program and put it into practice without having to contact you to clarify what you intended by your recommendations or to explain parts of your program.
Include an explanation for WHY you listed and recommended what you did. Rcfcrcnce the concepts and theories covered in the course. Be sure to address why the program and exercises recommended are appropriate for the specific client given the client’s history, current abilities, and intended goal(s). I am the fitness trainer of Steve Rogers, and I would first calculate my client’s BMR, BMI and target heart rate.
The BMR can be calculated using the following formula.
BMR (calories his body requires daily) = 66 + (6.23 x his weight in pounds) + (12.7 x his height in inches) - (6.8 x his age in years)
=66 + (6.23X 178) + (12.7X6) + (6.8X27)
= 66 + 1108.94 + 76.2 + 163.2 
= 1414.34
The BMI can be calculated using the following formula.
BMI = [his weight in pounds / (his height in inches x height in inches)] x 703 
BMI = 24.14
Thus, it can be said that Steve Rogers’ BMR is 1414.34 and his BMI is 24.14.
Now, I am going to determine his target heart rate. The following formula is used for this purpose.
Target Heart Rate = ((maximum heart rate − resting rate) × %intensity) + resting heart rate
Target heart rate = 220 - 27 (his age) = 193
In case the value of resting heart rate is not provided, we can use the average value (70 bpm). Now, we will determine the target heart rate at the minimum intensity (60%) and the maximum intensity (80%).
The minimum intensity:
Target heart rate = ((193 - 70) x 0.6) + 70 = 143.8
The maximum intensity:
Target heart rate = ((189 - 70) x 0.8) + 70 = 168.4
