Microsystem- is the first level in Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model and comprises things that impact a child directly in their immediate surrounding environment. They include siblings, parents, babysitters, school peers, and teachers. Microsystem has a great impact on a child's socio-emotional development. For example, children raised by caregivers who show understanding, compassion, warmth, help towards others, and genuine concern usually embrace prosocial behavior and empathy at later stages of their lives.
Mesosystem: is the second level in the model. It comprises the collaboration between a child's microsystems, like contact between their teachers, parents or siblings, and school peers. At this level, a child's microsystems are interconnected and impact one another as they do not function independently. In addition, Mesosystem affects a child's socio-emotional development and encompasses attributes of a child's school system or neighborhood, like safety, culture, and traditions. For instance, if a child is raised feeling unsafe or struggling to fulfill basic survival needs, a sense of insecurity or fear of violence would most likely shape their emotional beliefs and reactions.
