People from different parts of the world continue to struggle with various drug addictions. Many researchers are coming up with ways to control the world from vanishing in drugs. The increasing numbers of drug abuse cause a concern. Different global organizations led by the World Health Organization (WHO) have come together to figure out the root of the problem and develop a permanent solution. Notably, the researchers came up with the grave concern of the rising numbers of mental disorders and increase crime rates connected with drug abuse. To be more specific, most victims claim to have used the drugs in their teenage hood. Surprisingly, a large number of teenagers are already exhibiting signs of mental illness. The more lightly we continue to take drug use among high school students, the quicker we lose prominent people to the mental facilities. The escalating numbers of drug abuse among teenagers create a world dilemma; the increase of mental disorders and criminal activities connected to drug use creates the urge to investigate the root cause of the problem and develop the best permanent solution.
Drug abuse among high school students is an appealing topic because of the role the teenage stage plays in determining a person's future. According to Meruelo and Tapert (2017), a person experiences physical, psychological, and biological changes during adolescence. They also say that it is at this time that a person's brain learns to work effectively and solve problems in the best manner. The distraction of the process might cause a person to lose adult focus and become ineffective in whatever they try to accomplish. Drug abuse is the leading cause of brain growth destruction in the adolescence stage. Substance abuse interferes with the neurotransmitters hence cause disconnection within the brain. The disconnection causes a permanent problem that may have adverse health effects and social behaviors during the addict’s adulthood.
