The adolescent stage is one of the stages in the life of an individual that is characterized by rapid changes in both his/her psychological and physical traits. While the most noticeable changes are those related to the physical aspects of an individual, the adolescent stage also takes toll on the less noticeable aspects such as the psychological, emotional, and social behaviors of a human being. In this article, the author would like to discuss these other aspects especially those related to the social behaviors of an adolescent in relation to their parents. The discussion of this kind of change is important because as we know, parents have been very significant in the development of one's well-being from the toddler stage up until the latter stages of one's life. More particularly, this article would discuss these effects in relation to social circumstances such as going away for college or having a lesser of autonomy, among others. In the end, the author believes that in circumstances where an adolescent lives separately from his/her parents, the development of the adolescent becomes heavily dependent on one's peers.
