Assignment 2: Descriptive Statistics Name Course Institution Date Assignment 2: Descriptive Statistics The paper is divided into two segments: the auto accident data and analysis, and Salary data and analysis where SPSS is used for descriptive statistics analysis Auto accident data and analysis IBM SPSS Statistics 20 was used in the data analysis of auto accidents. Gender is a nominal scale while age is ratio and accident is interval scale distribution. The nominal scale has values with no implied order, while the ratio scale has values with equal intervals between them and the zero point is meaningful. The interval value has equal distances been the viable, yet the zero point is arbitrary. For males, the descriptive statistics were mean (1.98), median (2.00), the number of cases (250), range (7) and standard deviation (1.61), and for the females the, mean is 1.47, 1.00 (median), 250 (number of cases), 6, (range), and the standard deviation is 1.41. When reporting on frequencies, the size of overall data set (N) and the size of a cell or group (Morgan, Reichert& Harrison (2002). In the Auto accident, data was provided with an overall sample size of N = 500, where Males, n = 250, and females, n = 250. In the overall sample M = 1.72, SD = 1.53 For the Male subset (M = 1.98, SD = 1.61), while for the females had (M = 1.47, SD = 1.41). As the incidents of accidents for males was M=1.72 and M=1.47 or females, there was a higher incident rate for males since 1.72>1.47. In the case of variability or dispersion as indicated by the standard of deviation SD=1.53 for Male versus SD=1.41 for Female indicating higher variability in accidents for the males. Salary data and analysis In SPSS 20, salary is a numeric type and scale measure, while individual is a string type and nominal measure. There were no missing values for the two variables where the data for all the 50 individuals were entered. For the descriptive statistics, the mean is$ 34,184 rounded from $ 34,183.70, the Median is $ 32,649 rounded from $32,648.50, while there is no Mode as all values appeared just once, the sample Standard Deviation is $ 6294.143 rounded from 6294.143 and the Standard Error of the Mean (SEx̄) is $ 890 rounded from $890.126. The standard deviation is a measure of dispersion, it...
