Servant Leadership from a Christian Perspective: in the Real World
In the recent past, servant leadership has received much attention not only from scholars but also from those who are being led. In my opinion, servant leadership has the potential of solving most of real business issues as well as those of the world. Based on this perspective, I have considered to reflect on my leadership style in relation to the seven distinct characteristics. Servant leadership is important to me in various ways such as organization and employee advising as it provides me with the most enrichment and fulfilment that my life as a unit manager could provide. As a unit manager I always strive to ensure the needs of my team are satisfied before mine as well as that they have grown in all aspects (Spears, 2010). As a leader, I always strive to influence my team members to undertake tasks that will develop them.
As a leader, I have always sought to ensure that besides meeting the needs of our stakeholders, those of my team members are met and seek for their growth and development as well. However, after reading the Servant Leadership: The Seven Distinctive Characteristics book by DelHousaye and Brewer (2004), I can say that these characteristics fits me well. These characteristics have enabled me understand few more things that I can implement to enhance by leadership to benefit those I am leading.
