Almost every employer searches for innovative and creative workers to hire. However, something that business owners forget is that they can create a workplace environment that fosters innovativeness. Internally or intrinsically motivated employees will do anything to ensure that a firm succeeds. These individuals extend their working hours to see that they meet their set objectives. Indeed, it does not matter whether they are paid overtime or not. When internally motivated workers achieve something for a company, they have a sense of accomplishment in their lives as well. As such, employers should stop wasting more resources in the recruitment process and instead invest in methods to motivate their workers. In that case, my current employer should implement some strategies in the organization to promote intrinsic motivation and innovation.
The four primary strategies that my employer can implement to enhance internal motivation and innovation are team building activities, career advancement opportunities, correcting people’s error privately, and regular feedback. In particular, almost every employee anticipates a bright future for his or her career. No one wants to remain in the same job position for an extended period without advancing to the next level. Workers who focus on career progression are more intrinsically motivated since they understand that good things are awaiting them in the future. These people set a clear path to follow and do not allow any obstacle to hinder them from achieving their mission. For this reason, my current employer can come up with career advancement programs to help employees get relevant knowledge and skills that prepare them to undertake more responsibilities in the upcoming years. At this juncture, the success of a firm becomes an added advantage to workers’ professional lives. The other strategy that my employer can adopt to facilitate workers’ intrinsic motivation is teambuilding activities. Employees who do not interact with their colleagues well cannot focus on achieving a common goal. Teamwork decreases performance anxiety and diminishes stress (Scudamore, 2016). In the long run, it fosters trusting relationships that boost a firm’s productivity and profitability. Employees must be united and create a sense of belongingness to the firm before they devote themselves to do things in the right way.
At some point in life, everyone makes several mistakes. However, the most significant thing is to learn from errors since one gains relevant knowledge. My current employer should know that being hostile to employees when they commit a mistake is not the most appropriate way to foster a positive change. Notably, negative feedbacks do not motivate workers (Ganta, 2014). That is the reason why employers should summon workers in their offices when correcting mistakes.
