Introduction
It is vital that every team goes through the five core stages of team development. The steps were established by Bruce W. Tuckman back in 1965 based on the information he got from researching on group dynamics. For a team to thrive and achieve its set goals, there are certain stages that are inevitable, and upon incorporating these steps, a team can effectively grow and yield high-quality results. The paper provides details of each of the five stages (Certo et.al, 2015).
Stage 1: Forming
According to Certo et.al (2015), the stage takes place when the team participants meet each other for the first time. In this stage, the members get the chance to introduce themselves to each other and share necessary information concerning their backgrounds, interests, and experience. It is in the forming stage that the members learn about the set project and they discuss its missions and objectives. They, therefore, discuss the roles each will play and establish common grounds so that they will be able to work together to achieve the set goals. The team leader should ensure all members participate fully.
Stage 2: Storming
When the team begins to conduct its operations together, it enters the storming stage. In this critical stage, the team participants compete for acceptance and status regarding their contribution through ideas.
