Purpose Statement
The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine how the Internet of Things (IoT) can be used to help improve the city lives at household level. The research will apply a mixed methods approach as it will entail obtaining views from the consumers regarding their understanding of IoT and how they believe it can shape their lives, as well as quantifying the usage of the technology among the city dwellers. It will use a sequential approach as proposed by Venkatesh, Brown, and Bala (2013) and data analysis will be performed in two phases: the qualitative and the quantitative phases. Based on the sequential mixed methods design approach fronted by Venkatesh, Brown, and Bala (2013), the variables defining the research goal will be developed from the interviews following the first qualitative study phase after which a theory will be developed to explain the factors. The subsequent phase will entail a quantitative study on a larger sample to collect more empirical support for the theoretical framework designed in the first phase.
