Successful organizations in society are those that are headed by individuals who are keen on ensuring the well-being of employees. As such, there are several leadership models in that regard including the servant leadership model. Unlike conventional leadership philosophies where the leaders are inclined on ensuring that organizational objectives are met, the servant leadership model is associated with leaders whose primary aim is to serve. According to Ivancevich et al., (2011)., “A Servant Leader shares power, puts the needs of the employees first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible”. Through the model, a servant leader exists not only to serve the people but also to ensure that they grow to their full potential. The figure 1 below shows several distinct pillars and traits of servant leaders.

Based on the above characteristics, it is evident that the servant leadership model is closely related to the transformative leadership model. To begin with, both models require persons of character and individuals who demonstrate humility, maintain integrity and continuously make ethical decisions (Ivancevich et al., 2011). Secondly, they both put employees first with the leaders keen on guiding and helping them grow and achieve their career goals and objectives. Thirdly, the leaders in both leadership philosophies are skilled communicators and tend to create hospitable environments that invite feedback from employees and allow them to communicate persuasively. Fourthly, both models are built by compassionate collaborators who ensure that all employees feel valued and appreciated despite their diverse backgrounds (Norman, 2016). Last but not least, leaders from both models lead with moral authority. They not only accept and delegate responsibilities but also inspire trust and confidence.
