Informational Interview: Being a Physician
Part I: Career Research
A physician is a professional concerned with endorsing, preserving and restoring health. This is done through the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries and impairments. According to a study conducted by Augusta health, a physician works at an average of one and a half-hour more a week compared to the average American. This translates to an average American working for fifty-four years to match what a physician does in thirty-six years (Augusta Health, 2018). Research puts much emphasis on having skills before deciding to pursue the physician profession. Some of the skills required to be a physician are; basic skills required in the day-to-day communication and interaction between a physician and a patient or any other medical personnel (NCOD, 2020). Basic skills are also important when trying to figure out how to best go about a problem. Not everyone can pay attention to detail, and thus lacking this trait would make one have shortcomings in pursuing this profession. Other personalities that a physician should match are; being dependable, hardworking, being an analytical thinker, having a deep concern for others and being a person of integrity (NCOD, 2020). One of the most surprising facts about the physician profession is that being a physician involves risking one’s health and well-being daily. Physicians are often exposed to injuries in their working environment and tools, contagious diseases and ev...
