1] What can an organization do to help its people be prepared for change?
Change affects people, and the leaders are well placed to prepare the workers to respond to changes. As such, before change management, then leaders motivate the employees and identify the likely benefits and costs of implementing changes (Al-Haddad & Kotnour, 2015). The more people understand the case for change, the more they are likely to implement them. Addressing resistance to change is prioritized, while considering the processes, technology and people tasked with implementing the new processes. After identifying change, the people in an organization are engaged, and efforts are made to reinforce changes to ensure that the effects are long-term and not temporary (Al-Haddad & Kotnour, 2015). When there is an effective continuous planning process it is easier to respond and implement changes, where resources are set aside and capability analysis are considered to determine readiness for change.
2] What, in your opinion is the most likely target for terrorism in the next year? Explain why you chose that target and what can/should be done to lessen the likelihood of any long-term consequences.
The rise of cyber terrorism and the risk of attacks on soft targets are high more than ever before, while terrorist groups are less distinctive organizations. Lone wolf attacks have also occurred in the past, and the New York/New Jersey Transit System is at high risk of terrorist attack (Frost, 2014). Additionally, attacks are most probable during the peak hours when there are more people. The high population, proximity and recognizability of the transition system/subway/metro area also indicate that it is a prime target. The Boston Marathon attacks highlighted the vulnerability of event gatherings and public places. Even though, the election of Donald Trump has heightened security alert in New York, the mass transit system remains vulnerable. To minimize the risk of attacks an effective surveillance system should be deployed, integrating advanced information systems with improved scanning technology. Where possible a security committee should be instituted to monitor the risks, threats and vulnerability of the New York transit system.
