Introduction And a Description of The Crisis
During my first semester at the school we were assigned group work. The group selection was randomized and we could not pick our friends, or rather persons we had developed close relations with to be part of our group. I happened to be enjoined to a group of persons I did not have a clue on their characters or likes and dislikes The assignment was to be done within two days. Besides, it was bulky. Considering tight schedule that the assignment was an important part of the unit, we decided to subdivide parts of the assignment so that each member handles a section. One last member was left out to do the compilation and consolidation of the parts of the assignment into the final work for submission. Having in mind that this was a very important part of the unit as it was going to be part of our final grades, I assumed that every member of the group would handle it with the diligence it deserved. However, I was wrong. Not everybody takes the thing seriously as we would do (Jordan-Meier, J., 2016). And that is a fact I realized that time. On the day of submission, our group did not have the final work to submit. To make the matters worse, one member of the group did not do his part of the assignment and as such, the member who was to compile and consolidate the parts of the work rode on that excuse. The professor was very specific about late submissions and the penalties when he was giving out the work.
Jordan-Meier’s Four Fundamental Stages Of The Crisis
Jane Jordan summarized crisis situations into four primary stages. Borrowing Jane’s summary of the four stages of the crisis, the first stage was when it was apparent that our group did not have the work to present and submit. At this point, the focus was on the incident and the key question was, “what happened?” At this time, the professor tried to understand what transpired. It took a very short time for the crisis to jump to stage two, the “fire line.” In stage two, the focus changed to us, the “victims.” However, the mistake was technically for just two members of the group, the fact that it was a group work made the innocent the victims as well. During this second phase, our responses were key (Jordan-Meier, J., 2016). New information and facts about the incident became apparent and a clearer picture of what happened came out.
