With the advancement in technology in recent years as well as the dynamism of the obligations of the customer's, the world has become a narrow and common market. Every day there are new services and products being invented, and the number of businesses grows every day. Therefore, the sustainability of the existing and new businesses has been compromised due to the growth of the businesses exponentially. Hence, for the companies to survive in this market characterized by competitiveness, they have to increase their competence (Kuei, 2011). One of the main ways to improve the competence of companies is implementing total quality management strategy in their model. This paper analyses the way total quality management and competitiveness are related.
How Total Quality and Competitiveness are Related
Quality of products and services is an essential aspect of business regardless of the size of the company. The total quality management of any organization determines whether the organization succeeds or fails. The primary objective of total quality management is to create a competitive advantage characterized by its sustainability, which is provided by ensuring that the customers are satisfied via a cost-efficient manner (Yankelevitch, 2015). The statement means that the adoption of total quality management by companies is aimed at providing the consumers with best services or produces at a fair cost. Thus, it seeks to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage by continuously improving their services or products on a timely basis.
The economy in recent years has become very competitive, and competition is not determined by monetary since it cannot create a sustainable competitive advantage. Instead, a sustainable competitive advantage is created by strategies which are strongly competitive and based on quality. Many companies today are focused on improving the quality of processes, products, and services and integrating them as a fundamental strategic policy. However, for the companies to obtain such fete, there should be an alignment of the environmental requirements and the competitive strategy of the company (Akgün et al., 2011). The process and content of the total quality management is the competitive advantage of the company. It means that companies wishing to gain a competitive advantage in the market should get a balance between its content and process.
