A Chronicle of Life Cycle Change was an experiment aimed at exploring hypothesized relationships between the stages of life cycle development. The experiment involved keeping track of an organization over time to observe changes in its stages of development. The organization selected was a developmental center in the former New York State Department of Mental Hygiene. Its life cycle began with the Early Stages of Development. At this stage, the center established a developmental ideology to deinstitutionalize itself from the broader mental health profession (Quinn & Cameron, 1983). Consequently, the ideology formed common guidelines that members had to follow. Additionally, the organizational culture was based on openness, cooperation, creativity, and innovation.
The second stage was Performance and Resource Acquisition. At this stage, the organization emphasized establishing inter-organizational relationships and pursuing external support, which allowed it to accomplish the objectives outlined at the developmental stage (Quinn & Cameron, 1983).
