While growing up, we usually fear and respect our parents. We always abide by their rules and regulations. My parents were never the strict kind maybe unless one decides to disobey them. In our family we are four children: one boy and three girls. My elder brother relocated to his own place after completing his masters. My younger sister is about to begin kindergarten. My other sister who is two years older than me is mom’s favorite. She is brighter than me and always gets rewarded for her success. Our father who also sees how hard I strive to do my best makes me feel optimistic by rewarding me too. Despite being bright, my sister never makes me feel inferior. She is always there for me whenever I needed or need assistance. Our parents were not heavily endowed financially but they always ensured that they fully supported our education.
My sister and I attended different schools. I got to make new friends in my school though many of my previous friends attended the same school as my sister. My class had some students who usually felt like they were on top of others since they were rich and many students would choose to hang out with them in order to be seen as though belonging to the same social status. They used to call themselves the brit brats. Some would look down upon many of us and even provoke us into getting into fights.
Our school was popularly known for being outstanding in co-curricular activities. I opted to join basketball since it has been my favorite sport since childhood. At first it was quite hard to be among the team’s main players but I did not give up. I practiced daily and also became good friends with the captain. Our coach saw potential in me and decided to put me in a match. This boosted my ego and I did not disappoint him. I got to expand my friendship circle since I got to meet other people from different schools. At times we would go and play in my sister’s school and she would be proud of me and tell her friends that we are related. They nicknamed me “the shooter” since I was good at making shots.
When I made it to be a key player in the school’s basketball team, I felt like I had achieved a major life goal. I was prevalently known in many schools and in a way it instilled some pride in me. Capturing the attention of many is usually a good feeling. It makes you feel like a celebrity. The “brit brats” in my class envied me since I got to capture the attention of the students that mostly would hang out with them. It reached a point when they wanted to start a fight with me and I saw no need to give them the pleasure of seeing me stoop at their level so I opted to let them be.
