We have witnessed unprecedented growth in technology, which has popularized the use of social media, making it an essential part of our modern life. Social media presents us with the opportunity to learn about life in different societies and other people’s opinions. Its use can be identified as transforming because of the way it has affected the Millennials of our time. It has also presented presidents with the opportunity to run governments in a new fashion. Due to its widespread use, there are many advantages and disadvantages associated with its use. This paper will outline the use of social media in our societies today and examine its impact on young people and the society.
The most memorable moments when using Facebook was when I encountered a post that bragged about religion. After the first encounter, I find Facebook posts about religion to be very annoying. People that brag about religion try hard to make other people aware of their humility. The religious posts mainly contain phrases such as “blessed and highly favored,” or “truly anointed.” I find such posts annoying since they mean that God loves them more than you. Other people who use Facebook regularly, frequently encounter such posts and are made to wonder if they are “favored.” Such posts should be frowned upon, and matters concerning religion should be kept sacred and personal. I believe that bragging about religion on social media equals the poor use of the platforms.
President’s Use of Social Media
It is important for presidents to use social media to communicate directly with the public, without the bias in the mainstream media. Using Twitter, specifically, is the most efficient and fastest way of spreading the news to the world. For instance, President Donald Trump staged a fight against the mainstream media and uses Twitter to popularize the “fake news” sentiments (Mergel, 2017). It essential for presidents to use social media due to its resourcefulness in reaching millions of people without the use of mainstream media. By using social media, presidents show their acknowledgment of social media and how it has become central to the lives of most citizens.
Presidents should personally use social media to communicate with citizens without the help of publicists. This way, citizens will appreciate their efforts in communicating clearly and will be let in their authentic thoughts. For instance, President Trump uses social media as a tool for communication and gives his thought about current matters (Mergel, 2017). Using social media helps the public to understand the president’s stand on current affairs of the state. High-level officials in the government can use social media to inform the public about the government’s progress in political, economic, and social.
