The Television series, “Game of Thrones” bases its plot on George R. R. Martin’s epic fictional series, A song of Ice and Fire. The purpose of this essay is to discuss how the different people in the television series interact with each other and discern whether there are any hierarchies or conflicts as depicted in the plot.
How People in Different Groups Interact
The plot is set up in such a way that the societal structure divides the society into seven kingdoms, which is a reflection of the feudal system of ancient Europe. In principle, this social structure consists of kings, lords, and the peasants (Battis & Johnston, 2015). The privileged, in this case the kings and lords, have political authority, and rule over the peasants within their territory through a system sworn oaths. Additionally, the common people owe military loyalty and service to their lords in return for security and land. The system has a rigid structure, where people born as commoners rarely have a chance to advance to a higher social class. However, this social class advancement is not impossible. The advancement is at the discretion of lords, who may choose to confer it to commoners, who have served them well or other individuals that have proven themselves worthy (Battis & Johnston, 2015).
As per the plot of the television series, at the top of the societal structure is the king of the Iron Throne, and below him are the lords and knights, with the peasants at the bottom.
