A tragedy is described through the downfall of a noble hero. A tragic hero has great wishes, but usually encounters limits due to his flaws in reasoning or through nature. According to Aristotle, a tragic hero makes mistakes to achieve some revelation and understand the will of nature. Aristotle describes a tragedy highlighting the important elements of plot and character. The structure of a tragedy should have a definite beginning, middle and the end. King Lear is one of the plays of William Shakespeare typically presents Shakespearean tragedies. According to the story, King Lear is brought to ruin and eventually dies due to her tragic flaw, of foolishness that is spurred by pride. As the story progress, King Lear makes decisions that affect his authority, his identity and his sanity making him a tragic hero. The king's tragic flaw prevents him from seeing the truth because his arrogance overrides his judgment. He makes bad decisions from the beginning and only realizes his mistakes in the end. For example, the king expected his youngest daughter’s speech to be full of praise for him.
Aristotle's two main elements of plot and character are well described in the story. The king believes in what appeals to him and fears facing the truth.
