The Impacts of Glass Ceiling
Glass ceiling entails the invisible barriers, which hinder females from advancing in their career ladder (BBC News, 2017). I feel that women around the world encounter various challenges that prevent them from being promoted to the top executive or managerial positions.
I have come across women whose career progression has been affected adversely. According to a study performed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) comprising of three thousand respondents, the findings indicated that about 73% of female participants believed that gender barriers affect those seeking top managerial and executive positions (Snowdon, 2011). Some of the workplace issues I have observed that hinder women from career progression include discrimination, harsh opinions, the perception that females are weaker than males, and the breadwinner ideology (Feloni, 2014). I have seen many well-educated and highly qualified women who fail to become leaders due to their gender.
I have learned that only few women are in senior leadership positions in American organizations and their number has been plummeting gradually. I think the current system does not create an equal platform for females to become leaders. However, eradicating the glass ceiling can only occur by changing the workplace culture (Belanger, 2017)...
