REFLECTION
The G.I. Bill was enacted in 1944 to help veterans of World War II. This was a bill that founded HealthCare organizations, made low interests loans, and mortgages accessible to the veterans. The bill also gave the veterans stipends and covered the tuition fees and overheads for the veterans who were attending colleges and universities. Between 1944 and 1949, approximately 9 million veterans received 4 billion from the unemployment compensation program of the bill. However, training and employment programs lasted up to 1956 (Gaston, 2014). This bill also enabled veterans to receive insured loans. The government also guaranteed a loan for all the veterans who wanted to buy homes, start businesses or start farming. These loans enabled the veterans to move from the cities to the suburbia where there was mass production. The migration of the veterans from the major cities of the United States assisted in shaping the socioeconomic and political systems of America for the coming years.
Although the bill was able to improve the lives of the veterans regardless of gender and race and gender, it was very easy for some individuals to collect more than others. In some instances, the benefits were given to white veterans at the local and state level. There were gender and racial discrimination. Women and African Americans scuffled a lot so that they would receive loans and get education. In the Southern states, veterans were steered to unskilled jobs instead of attending colleges (Gaston, 2014).
