Atomic Bombs
During World War II, the American military employed the use of atomic bombs to conquer two cities in Japan. They developed a functional atomic bomb during the war and named it the Manhattan Project (Ichiyo & Muto, 178). A lot of the work was done on the nuclear bomb around July 1945. In August 1945, the U.S military dropped its first atomic bomb over the city of Hiroshima and the second one over the city of Nagasaki. Questions raised over the convincement by Americans to drop this bomb have arisen for long and this essay will respond to the concerns.
The bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was justified. It was a response to the attacks on their submarines by the Japanese, while they had not been engaged in the war with them. It was clear the U. S was desperate in winning the war and stamping authority as a world power then. It had to find a way it would cause fear and force the nations to respect them (Sugiyama, & Hiromi 635). The U.S, just like any other nation during the period, was stirring towards the culmination of the World War II and opted to embrace a stand that appeared to limit the sum of causalities in the warfare (Yamaguchi et al 23)
The application of explosive arms was a rational act by the United States due to an extreme rise in reported causalities, both soldierly and the citizens. Up to the topmost positions of the U.S army, about 135,000 lives were lost. It would mean more deaths if they never stopped fighting. Even though this act was unpleasant, it was the only quick way to make the Japanese surrender without shame and thus, certainly justified.
