The Progressive Era, 1900–1916: Theodore Roosevelt
What I found most interesting in Chapter 18, “The Progressive Era, 1900-1916” was the constructive activities of the newly sworn-in President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The progressive Era being that time when America witnessed explosive economic growth and strategic changes in development, benefited from the activities of a proactive president such as Roosevelt. I was intrigued by his move to straighten activities in the corporate world when he spearheaded a campaign to dissolve activities of Northern Securities Company that had monopolized operations in the transport sector. He was able to steer his agenda using the Sherman Antitrust Act to the interest of the populace. 
I was able to note that the most outstanding trait of Roosevelt was his undying interest in the affairs of workers, especially when he declared that he was an “honest broker” in the labor disputes. It was such a time when a strike had threatened to paralyze all activities of coalfield in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Such was a stance that he pulled when he threatened to press for a federal takeover of mines in West Virginia and Pennsylvania because of employee harassment. I remember Roosevelt as a selfless individual who had a better vision for America and improved life for all its citizens.
