In the article written by Goldberger, he argued that these days, technology has paved the way for the “decreasing publicness of a public place”. He argued this, thinking how public places, which should be appreciated for their own sake, has now become more private as people delve into their phones and other communication technologies. Also, he argued that because of this increasing intrusion of our phones in any place that we go, we fail to completely experience the “communality of urban life” CITATION Gol \l 1033 (Goldberger). Nevertheless, the author of this article highly believes that this is not the case. Today the increasing intrusion of our phones (more specifically social media) wherever we go, has now increased the publicity of a place and makes it more distinct since every photo that visitors take, contribute to the uniqueness of the place. He believes that the use of smartphones, does not necessarily cause a decrease in the communal experience, but rather makes it even more public since these days, the term public does not only refer to physical places but even spaces in our social media.
