Structure
The poem has three stanzas, within which the idea is well developed. This being a descriptive poem, the idea in the poem is well developed to help the audience understand what it is the poet is trying to bring across. The idea is about the fleeting nature of creation. The poet uses the element of the web to signify building. In the poem, the poet is meticulous in the word choice as they give away certain meaning. From the first stanza, fourth line, the poet mentions Yarn of Pearl (Genevieve & Funchess, 2014). This is a statement that is meant to indicate the significance of the yarn that the spider is making ("The Spider Holds A Silver Ball Poem by Emily Dickinson - Poem Hunter", 2017). This is to signify the web is important much like the empires that people try to build in their life. To pass the message, the poem is structured into three stanzas as mentioned earlier and there are four lines in each of them (Kornfeld, 2014).
Meaning
There is a rather deep meaning the poet was trying to pass to the audience. This is with reference to the fact that, despite that the spider values the web and take meticulous efforts to build up, the broom comes along and brings all this efforts to the ground. This is reflective of the frail nature of creation (Kornfeld, 2014). In that, while we may take as much time, resources and effort to build empires in our lives they are frail as they easily come undone. As such, the theme of the poem is the fleeting nature of creation. Where the element of creating has the element of impermanence.
Imagery
